Fascial Stretch Therapy™️

Fascial Stretch Therapy™ (FST) Summary:

Fascial Stretch Therapy™ (FST) optimizes the elasticity of our body’s fascia, the elastic connective tissue that lines all parts of our body, by reducing guardedness with phases of shortening and contracting, loosening adhesions within and between its adjacent layers, and engaging the fascia. This gives muscles a greater ability to both lengthen and contract with greater ease, allowing for greater range of motion, strength, power, muscle control and balance and can help decrease pain and stiffness.

Although less effective then when assisted, there are valuable self-stretching options that can be taught using FST principles. This style of self-stretching is great for reducing stiffness and increasing movement quality and range of motion during a workout or athletic event or as a mid-day stretch break at work.

This may help with:

  • It's great for increasing comfort and familiarity and times of lengthening and opening areas.
  • It's great for integrating breath and the body.
  • It's great for integrating the tissues in a region of the body or integrating 2 regions of the body with each other.

Neurodivergence

Amy has personal and professional experience understanding and assisting various types of neurodivergence including but not limited to learning disabilities (intellectual and motor including various types of processing skills), ADHD, and Autism, and their associated obsessive compulsive and other anxiety disorders. Neurodivergence is usually diagnosed by either a psychiatrist or an educational psychologist considering uniqueness and difficulties with brain functional output.

With neurodivergence there are usually unique sensory input sensitivities and Complex (childhood) PTSD that drive or enhance some of the output difficulties. Along with those there can be a visual and/or kinesthetic/feeling memory disorder and a listening processing disorder (such as difficulty hearing words when there is background noise or when there is a different word in each ear). These make life extra challenging and more work. It’s often common with neurodivergence to have a number or active primitive reflexes, and narrow high palate, breathing through the mouth instead of the nose, and a less coordinated tongue that drives the growth of the jaw.  Often our digestive system affects our mental functioning and can be made worse by stress. Additionally we hold excessive stress in our body tissues and acknowledging and working with our body is a way to acknowledge and work with the effects of disruptive stresses.

Exercise Rx

Exercise Rx Summary:

Our nature is to move. There’s a saying “The best position is the next position.” encouraging us to not stay in any one position for a long time. Movement helps with the flow of our soft matter/ fluids like our blood and our lymph, with the gliding of our layers of tissue on each other, and engaging the elasticity properties of our lining fascial tissue. When we consider the difference of water, bacteria and energy in a still pond compared with a flowing stream we can picture a different context and energy.

Some postures and ranges of motion are easier for the body to hold longer or do more repetitively or with force than others.
